November 12-13: The Weekend

We started off the weekend on Friday night.  We decided to do our regular errands and finish our Christmas shopping all in one evening.  Of course, I can't tell you about the gifts since the ones who will be receiving them read the blog, but we did what we set out to do.  Two gifts were ordered online but the rest were hand selected in the store to go with things that we are making.  I have never enjoyed the whole idea of doing that "Christmas Shopping" thing alone, but Kevin and I had a great time plotting and planning.  Each year, my goal is to have all the "commercial" part of the holidays done before Thanksgiving so that I can truly enjoy Advent and just spending time with friends and family.  Don't misunderstand, though!  I love the fun and special times we have all through the Christmas season, including Midnight Mass, a decadent Christmas morning breakfast, gathering around the tree opening the gifts and then sharing time with everyone as we figure out how things work or how to play a new game.  That is family tradition at its finest!

However, it is not yet time to focus on Advent and Christmas.  Thanksgiving has not even come and gone, so I am not even playing Christmas music yet.  Instead, I am thinking about other things.  We went to EMS and purchased new snow boots and gators to keep our pant legs dry this winter as we attempt snowshoeing.  We both bought Merrells  with several pairs of heavy socks, and we are now slowly breaking them in.  Once the snow comes, we are going to take advantage of some free afternoon outings to check out snowshoeing before we buy.

We finished off the evening , VERY LATE EVENING, by watching Part 2 of the latest Harry Potter movies.

Saturday, Kevin worked on rough cutting our boards for our table building workshop and then did a little work on some Ho! Ho! Ho! projects.  While he was at school, I started piecing 10 inch squares to make a twister quilt, did a load of jeans, and created a huge mess in my studio.  (More on the studio and quilt in another post.)  We finished off the day by  taking a walk in our new boots, going to mass, working together to cut the backing for a large quilt, and then watched the Harry Potter again.  (We are going to loan it to one of the students at the school, so we thought we should view it one more time before letting it go.  We both have enjoyed the books, CDs, and movies, but that is a whole other story.)

Sunday started a little later, but Kevin had some things he did not quite finish at school, so he left to do that and I continued with my mess making.  When he came home we ate a quick lunch and then headed down the road for a little adventure.

We are sharing Thanksgiving with friends and wanted to find some special wine from the local area, so we went to the Boyden Valley Winery just down the road from the wood school.  We did the wine tasting, or should I say Kevin did.  We made our purchases, including some Vermont maple syrup, and then did a bit more of a drive to check out an idea.  On the way we saw another covered bridge near Jeffersonville.

Afterwards, we went to church for a talk on the changes that are going to take place in the mass, took a 2 mile walk in our regular tennies, bought our weekly groceries, and then settled in for a quiet evening.  With Kevin working on spreadsheets about his wood projects, I decided to sit and work on a binding.

Love the weekends!
